  Laurus commenced business on the 10 April 2001 and was subsequently registered on the 5 May 2001. Laurus has been incorporated as a private limited entity since April 2003. Laurus was formed with the principal aim of providing business advisory and consultancy services to its clients.

This is in addition to the supplementary business support services, as described below. Our forte lies in business consultancy with the business support aspects being managed by our sister company AccountingBPO.com Pte Ltd.

  These are usually on a project basis and frequently take advantage of such government assistance schemes as LETAS (Local Entrepreneur Technical Assistance Scheme). Some of the areas that are covered by Laurus and our associates include:

- ISO 9001:2000
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees for which any member country can have representation on. International organizations, governmental and non-
governmental, also take part in the standard setting process.

The ISO 9000 series of standards is now widely accepted as the industry standard by several purchasing institutions with respect to their vendors. Hence, certification by an independent third party will boost confidence of purchasers as well as increase the credibility of a company’s products and services. Within an organization, instilling a quality management system according to the ISO standards will enhance teamwork (ISO steering committee), improve performance and lead to a more customer focused approach.

The latest revision of the standards was in the year 2000 and organizations that wish to achieve ISO Certification will be modeling their quality systems along these standards. They will then achieve their certification per ISO 9001 regardless of the industry they are in.

The project will be implemented over a Four Phase Program as follows:
 
 
Phase I - Appraisal And Training
Phase II - Establishment Of Quality System And Manual
Phase III  - Implementation And Review Of The System
Phase IV - Certification Of Quality Management System
  The estimated duration for the project is six months. Certification can be sought, with any of the approved third party certification bodies, after the system has been implemented for three months.

The consultant will work with the ISO project team (including at least one person from the company) to establish and implement the ISO 9001 system within the company.

The consultants will meet with the project team at least once a week during the project. Should the client wish to achieve certification faster, arrangements could be made for the consultant to come in more frequently.

In Phase IV, the consultant will work closely with the project team to prepare for the certification audit and implement corrective action (if any) once the audit is done. The client will then obtain their certification.

- ISO 14000
ISO 14000 is the series of standards on environmental management developed under the auspices of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It has more than 350 standards dealing with environmental issues involving noise, water, air, and radiation. The ISO 14001 standard contains the specifications for developing and implementing an environmental management system (EMS) & the supporting audit program to control those factors that could lead to undesired environmental impacts if left uncontrolled.

ISO 14000 has established standards that will help companies adopt a more pro-active approach in managing today’s environmental challenges. A Company's environmental performance can have a significant impact on its success.

- ISO 17025
This International Standard has been produced as the result of extensive experience in the implementation of ISO/IEC Guide 25 and EN45001, both of which it now replaces. It contains all of the requirements that testing and calibration laboratories have to meet if they wish to demonstrate that they operate a quality system, are technically competent, and are able to generate technically valid results.

SAC-SINGLAS will use this International Standard as the basis for their accreditation. This standard specifies the requirements for sound management and technical competence for the type of tests and/or calibrations the laboratory undertakes.

- Accounting System and Services:
This is for organizations that are newly incorporated and need a jump-start to the hazy world of accounts. May incorporate computerized accounting software if the client requires.

- Cost of Quality (COQ):
Analyze the various wastages in a company and work towards saving money and increased work efficiency. Helps an organization answer the following questions:
 
 
  • How much money does your company spend on re-inspections, mistake, rework, and waste? (i.e. costs that are associated with internal failures)

- Singapore Quality Class (SQC):

- IT System Development
a) IT Feasibility Study
We will conduct an analysis of your IT system requirements while incorporating our industry specific experience to determine the viability of our proposed solution. This feasibility study will take the form of a cost/benefit analysis.

b) IT Implementation (incl. e-commerce)
To implement the proposed solution. We will develop and implement (incl. data migration) the solution on a modular basis to ensure that all bugs are ironed out in a particular module before proceeding on the next one. System parallel running and training will be conducted over a period of 2 to 3 month end accounts closing to ensure the consistency and integrity of the resulting information as well as client familiarity with the system. The project concludes once there is User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and the system commissioned.

- HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point – Food
  Preparation Hygiene)
Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point or HACCP is an internationally recognized food safety process control program that provides the framework for hazard identification and control. It is an effective means of controlling food-borne diseases.

HACCP is a systematic approach to food safety, which applies science-based controls, from raw materials to finished product. The system gives the assurance that products will not endanger consumers.

- Quality Management for Bunker Supply Chain (QMBS)
Quality Management for Bunker Supply Chain (QMBS) was developed by Spring Singapore and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). The accreditation scheme for bunker suppliers was launched on 1st June 2003, with the objective of recognizing good bunker suppliers and deter malpractice in the industry.

Under QMBS, bunker suppliers will have to engage a certification body, which is accredited by the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) for quality management system (QMS). The body will audit and certify their compliance under QMBS requirements by 31 May 2005 and subsequently on an annual basis.

The scheme ensures that bunker suppliers take management responsibility for all sales – from product procurement, custody control to delivery – and to provide documented supply-chain transparency.
 
LETAS

As mentioned earlier, several of the above projects are able to be subsidized via LETAS. LETAS or Local Entrepreneur Technical Assistance Scheme is a scheme where local SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) can take advantage of government assistance or subsidies for a variety of project-based consultancy, provided they meet the criteria (30% local shareholding, annual sales turnover under $100 million and with an employment size below 200).

  • Mr. Jaya Anand V. As the principal consultant, Jaya is responsible for the setting up of Laurus Management as well as providing the link between all our team, alliances & associates, depending on their forte and their niche skills. Jaya has seen consulting assistance from both sides of the fence, as an external consultant as well as in the capacity of business development of a technology company. His forte are business planning, market development and process documentation & improvement.
     
  • Mr. Bob Oh. An accountant by profession, he additionally possesses experience as an MS Access database programmer. As the proprietor of Sheow Management Services, Bob has over 10 years of experience in servicing small, medium enterprises (SMEs) in Singapore in tax, audit and accounting matters. As a training instructor and consultant in a top 10 local audit firm, he was responsible for explaining financial concepts, budgeting and financial modeling to staff of clients as well as in-house junior staff.
